A NETWORK OF EXPERTS

Dr. Natalie Novick Brown is a forensic psychologist who specializes in
parenting evaluation, sex offender evaluation and risk assessment, and
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). She has testified as an expert
in state and federal courts throughout the United States. Dr. Brown received
specialized forensic training at the University of Washington and became
certified as a parenting evaluator in 1995 and as a sex offender treatment
provider (SOTP) in 1996. She received postdoctoral training in Fetal Alcohol
Spectrum Disorders from pioneer researcher Dr. Ann Atreissguth at the University
of Washington and is one of the few psychologists in the U.S. trained to conduct
FASD functional assessments in the clinical and forensic contexts.

A Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, Dr. Brown
now consults with the Fetal Alcohol and Drug Unit, providing pro bono FASD
assessments for individuals referred by the Mental Health and Drug Courts
in the Seattle area.

On Our Staff
Christine Simmons is Dr. Brown’s Administrative Assistant. She assists
Dr. Brown in obtaining and organizing records, fielding phone calls, scheduling
appointments, making travel arrangements, and doing the billing among other
office duties. Christine is bilingual and speaks Spanish fluently. She also is
the mother of three young children.

FASD EXPERTS

FASD Experts is a unique, multidisciplinary
forensic group with expertise in the assessment
of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders in adolescents and adults charged with or convicted of crimes. FASD Experts involves four professionals.

Dr. Paul Connor (neuropsychologist), Retired
Judge Anthony Wartnik (legal advisor), Dr. Natalie Brown (psychologist), and Dr. Richard Adler (psychiatrist) have developed a model standard
of FASD assessment incorporating a flexible, sequential, and cost-effective approach that maintains independence at each evaluative
phase to strengthen impact of expert opinions
at the trial/hearing stage. Their cutting edge
protocol is based on empirically-derived federal diagnostic guidelines that conform to the highest standards of care in FASD assessment as delineated by the Institute of Medicine (1996)
and Centers for Disease Control (2004).
